Nova Scotia Tourism Human Resource Council Walter H. Johnson Jr. graduated from Notre Dame University in 1939. He had a long and broad career in Tourism, Transportation, Marketing and Communications and his expertise was in high demand worldwide. This scholarship is awarded annually. There are two award categories: GOLD - $1,250.00 and SILVER - $750.00. Both awards are renewable for one additional year, for $750.00 and $250.00 respectively. Applicants must apply for the renewal.
CRITERIA 1. Program: Successful candidates must be pursuing a recognized Tourism post-secondary program.
2. Eligibility: All applicants must be graduating from a Nova Scotia High School in the current calendar year.
3. Applications will include: * Official school transcript * Essay: This essay will be 300-500 words in length entitled, "Why I've Chosen a Career in Tourism" * A bound Portfolio that includes relevant schoolwork, references and resume

Hotel Association of Nova Scotia (HANS)
Established in 1993, the Hotel Association of Nova Scotia's (HANS) primary objective is "To make Nova Scotia a 365 day a year travel destination". The principle role of this association is to act as a voice and represent the collective member hotels in expressing their views to all levels of government, media and academic institutions. This scholarship is presented annually in the amount of $1,000.00 and is non-renewable.
CRITERIA 1. Program: Successful candidates must be pursuing a recognized Tourism post-secondary program in Nova Scotia.
2. Eligibility: All applicants must be graduating from a Nova Scotia High School in the current calendar year.
3. Applications should include: * A 500 word essay describing why the applicant has chosen to pursue a career in the Hotel Industry and why they should be selected as a recipient * Resume * Official school transcript * Letters of reference: one academic and one extra curricular/professional For more information, please contact NSTHRC
Judith B. Cabrita Tourism Professional Scholarship
To support the investment in human resource development in the Tourism Industry, NSTHRC is proud to award a new scholarship for Tourism professionals seeking to upgrade their skills in their designated field.
CRITERIA: 1. Successful candidates must be pursuing a professional development opportunity to enhance their skills/career path within the Tourism Industry. Opportunities may include but are not limited to: conferences, training or educational programs, professional certification.
2. Applicants must be employed in the Tourism Industry and have a minimum of two years experience.
3. Applications are to include: * Current Resume * A letter of support from employer * A letter from applicant explaining interest in the chosen opportunity and professional aspirations, as well as, volunteer and other extra curricular activities that show an individual's character, personal values and beliefs.
Eligible amount: * Up to $1,000.00 will be awarded annually to Tourism employees.

Hospitality Human Resources Committee (HHRC)
The purpose of this award is to provide support to the Hospitality Industry by encouraging students currently enrolled in the Nova Scotia Community College system to prepare for future employment in the Tourism Industry. This scholarship is in the amount of $1000 and is non-renewable.
CRITERIA 1. Program: Successful candidates must be enrolled in the NSCC system and studying in one of the following two year programs: * Tourism and Hospitality Management * Culinary Arts
2. Eligibility: All applicants must be first year NSCC students
3. Successful applicants must demonstrate: * Scholastic achievement by maintaining 75% or above average * Exemplary attendance and punctuality * Excellent team and leadership skills * Exhibit professionalism through the application and interview process * Proven communication skills * Secured co-op placement at a HHRC member hotel

Since 1994, the Nova Scotia Tourism Human Resource Council has organized and hosted a golf tournament to generate funds to endow the NSTHRC Walter H. Johnson Jr. Scholarship Fund. The Judith B. Cabrita Tourism Professional Scholarship is a new scholarship for Tourism professionals seeking to upgrade their skills in their designated field. Participation in the Tourism Golf Classic, by players and sponsors, allows for the ongoing support of students entering our Industry and professional development of our Industry employees.
