Hotel Operations Internship

The Hotel Operations Internship is a two-year apprenticeship styled program in hotel operations for the Accommodation Sector of the Tourism Industry. Utilizing nationally developed Standards, the program's goal is to provide a source of competent, committed employees with a life-long learning mindset to become tomorrow's hoteliers.

There are three components to the Internship:

          • Practical - on-the-job workplace training
          • Theoretical - workshops and classes
          • Personal - self-directed learning

Program includes:
  • Paid work rotations in major areas of hotel operations
  • Industry mentoring
  • National Certification in two occupations
  • Classroom training
  • Workshop participation
  • Volunteer Industry participation

Outcome:

Hotel operators have identified a need for a more valuable and more qualified workforce - to employ personnel with the aptitude, attitude and commitment for a career in the Accommodation sector. The intern who successfully completes instructional and work rotation levels will be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of major areas of Hotel Operations and be Nationally Certified in two Tourism occupations, earning a certificate of Qualification in Hotel Operations.

Training Criteria:

  • 18-29 years of age
  • Possess a high school or equivalence diploma
  • Be willing and able to commit to 2 year employment/education contract
  • Be employable in the Nova Scotia Hotel Industry
  • Be willing and able to seek and attain National Industry Certification in two areas of Hotel operations
